The Akubra Federation
Named after the centenary of Australia's Federation, the hat reflects the era1900 through to 1940.
It is made in two grades, one very good and the other better!
The Federation is made from Imperial quality felt (the felt Akubra has built its reputation on) and The Deluxe Federation is made from Heritage Grade felt, a finer felt introduced more recently. Both of these hats can be found in our range of Fedora hats, here

Imperial Quality Felt felt made by Akubra is from pure rabbit fur, it is blended and processed to make an extremely stable and strong felt made to perform in the Australian outback.
Heritage Grade Felt is blended from parts of the rabbit pelt where the fur is finer and mixed with fur from the wild hare enabling the felters to produce a smoother, softer yet denser felt. The price of producing this felt is higher than the standard Imperial grade.
Both hats represent excellent value for money.
Open Crown
Most hats supplied prior to the mid 1940's were what is termed "open" or unshaped crowns. With the demise of hat wearing, custom "Hatters" decreased in number and large retailers starting selling hats and demanding they be pre shaped.
The Akubra Federation is supplied as "Open Crown". The picture above is a styling suggestion only. Shaping the hat is easy and can be styled by the owner for their own individual look.
The above shaping was a achieved in minutes by hand. No equipment required. Simple shaping instructions are available to purchasers or can be found here
